Аннотация

Numerical calculations are made of the duration of large-scale fading of electromagnetic waves with frequencies of 1 —10 kHz as they pass through a flat inhomogeneous layer of the lower ionosphere in the presence of a strong local perturbation of the atmosphere. A model of a perturbation in the form of a point energy source is used. It has been found that the model parameters depend on only two initial quantities: altitude h0 and the energy. It is shown that, at h0 < 50 km, the fade duration does not exceed 2 min; as h0 increases above a certain critical value, the horizontal size of the perturbation decreases significantly, which leads to a decrease in the decay time of radio waves to tens of seconds at h0 > 80 km.
