The questions of assessment of the role of arctic latitudes in the global environmental change forming are analyzed. The Big Data approach is developed for the environmental data processing and forecasting. The geoecological information-modeling system (GIMS) is proposed as possible improvement of the Big Data approach. The biogeochemical cycle of carbon is considered with the spatial structure of its sources and sinks on a global scale. Arctic Basin Ecosystem coupled model is synthesized to be as the GIMS sub-system that realizes series of particular models describing ecological, hydrological, climatic and hydrochemical processes in the arctic waters. Main goal of this report is consideration of different contaminant sources including river runoffs, long-range atmospheric transport and anthropogenic objects located in the coastal zone and on the ships to assess the biocomplexity and survivability of the arctic ecosystem. Key words: Arctic Basin, ecosystem, model, monitoring, heavy metals, oil hydrocarbons, radionuclides.
