A feasibility study of a frequency multiplexed read-out scheme for large number Transition Edge Sensor arrays were described in paper [1]. The readout makes use of frequency up- and down-conversion with SuperconductingInsulator-Superconducting (SIS) tunnel junctions operating at GHz frequencies, in combination with an existing frequency multiplexed read-out at MHz frequencies. Such read-out scheme can drastically reduce the wiring from room temperature to the cryogenic detectors. Experimental investigation of SIS tunnel junctions operating as up-, down- and RF-to-DC convertors at relatively low frequencies (∼ 5GHz) was made, different mixing regimes were studied and compared, main converter parameters were determined For the quasiparticle mixing regime the conversion loss is 9dB, 1dB compression point is −58dBm.
