My research is mostly aimed at electric properties of small-size conducting systems, which may be very different
from those of the bulk materials. In particular, these properties can be affected by electron-electron interaction and
spin-orbit coupling, whose effects are modified by the spatial confinement of electrons. A sufficiently strong
spin-orbit coupling may result in a formation of topologically protected edge states in some materials, in which the
electron spin is locked to the direction of its momentum. The transport properties of these states are also of interest
to me and my group. Of special interest are nonequilibrium fluctuations and electric noise in micron-size and
nanoscale conductors because they are very strong in small systems and at the same time provide unique
information about them. As my key scientific results are related with fluctuations and noise, I sometimes get back
to this issue and calculate the associated quantities with the members of my group for new types of conducting
systems.
