Vladimir A. Cherepenin was born in Moscow in August 14, 1947. He graduated from the Physics Department of Moscow State University, where he also received PhD degree (physics and mathematics) in 1979. In 1989 he received the Prof. Dr. degree in physics from the Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1997 he was awarded Professor title.
Since 1985 Vladimir A. Cherepenin is the head of Computational Physics Laboratory in the Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics. Under his supervision the researches in computer simulation of processes in high-power microwave amplifiers and generators have been carried out, a number of numerical models of new devices - free electron lasers - have been developed. The conceptional idea of multiwave interaction of high-power electron beams with electromagnetic field, elaborated by V.A. Cherepenin, allowed to obtain new experimental results. Prof. V.A. Cherepenin actively participated in experiments, in which record levels of coherent radiation in experimental microwave devices, using the relativistic electron beams, were achieved. A number of interesting experiments has been carried out on explosive-emission generators: it became possible to realize the transformation of explosion energy into coherent electromagnetic radiation. In general outline, the research field of Prof. V.A. Cherepenin is the application of computational physics methods to studying processes in interacting media. Now Professor V.A. Cherepenin and his colleagues carry out a cycle of perspective researches in the field of new principles of tomography.
Vladimir A. Cherepenin is the author of about 200 publications. He carries on intensive scientific and educational activity, giving daily significant time to work with students and post-graduate students. Ten scientists received their PhD under his direct scientific supervision.
